It’s not that I’m pessimistic...

I’m just not surprised.

I ‘failed’ the 3 hour glucose tolerance test (and what a fun experience that was, let me tell you. Actually, let me not.) So I’m on bedrest and now I have gestational diabetes. And a whole new set of things to google. Like, what the hell can I eat for the next few days until the Diabetes in Pregnancy class? (The nurse faxed me a brief intro to the food plan, but since I can’t go to the grocery store and J is working a lot, well, I’m not really sure what to eat.)

  1. Oh Cass, that absolutely sucks. I know nothing but hope it's not too bad.

  2. Aw crud. That stinks, I'm so sorry to hear. I hope they give you lots of help to manage it and you can return to (relatively) normal activity soon. Keep us posted.

  3. Sweetheart, have you considered ordering some groceries online?

Hoping the diet isn't too restrictive.

    Much love,

  4. I'm pretty sure a fellow blogger had gest diabetes. You could email her. I think she got a food list from someone else if I remember right. http://beavergirl.typepad.com/beaver_girl/

  5. Ugh that sucks. Even though I don't have it, they've been treating me like I do since the very beginning. You can eat all the protein you want (cheese, nuts, and peanut butter are a few of my faves since I don't like a lot of meat). Whole grains are better than white flour stuff.

Remember a serving of carbs is approximately 15 (grams? mg?), you just have to read every label. Milk counts as a carb instead of a protien (that one gets me every time). I'm not following a meal plan right now because my sugars have been good, but let me know if I can answer any questions.

  6. I'm sorry, that does really suck. I'm assuming you can eat as much fruit (as long as its not too sugary so no mangoes) and veg as you like? And wholewheat cereals like oats, bulgar wheat, quinoa? Let me know, I've got a couple of great quinoa recipes which are really easy and yummy.

  7. Ugh, that stinks, Cass. Here's hoping that the GD is mild (if it can be, I have no idea what I'm talking about in that arena) and the bedrest goes quickly.

  8. Oh Cass, I am sorry. Jenn gave a pretty good rundown of food ideas, so I will just say you have my sympathy and you are in my thoughts. I hope you are doing well.
